Mathematics Activity (part 1) HOW TO PUT THEM TOGETHER?

Can you solve the following problem?

it's about how to change 4 identic squares formed from twelve sticks becomes 3 identic squares without increase and decrease the sticks.

the question:
how do you change 4 identic squares formed from twelve sticks becomes 3 identic squares without increase and decrease the sticks?

If you're in class, you can use the following activities:
  1. University student become 6 groups
  2. Divide 12 stick with size about 10 cm  to everygroup
  3. Give instructions to everygroup to make 4 identic squares from 12 sticks
  4. Give time about  ± 3 minutes to solve question.
  5. Give chance to group to answer
  6. Explain again how to solve the task.
above activities is one of the activities that can be done for you as a teacher who wants to get rid of boredom for students to learn mathematics. and this certainly is one way a teacher in attracting students to learn more mathematics.
the answer:
first step, Make 4 identic squares from 12 sticks. see the picture below:











and then, take stick 1,2,3,3 from  square.











and move stick 1,2,3,4 like picture at bellow
